The Coquitlam Sharks offers 3 seasonal programs during the year with different registration and try-out opportunities for each of the seasons.

New to the Club?

All swimmers who are new to the club must be assessed.

Program Minimum Criteria: For safety reasons, all our sports have minimum age and eligibility criteria.  For detailed eligibility criteria, please refer to each of the sport information sheets available from the links below.

For our Speed Swimming tryouts, please review the below minimum requirements carefully.  If your child(ren) do not meet these minimum requirements, we will not be able to offer them a tryout.

Minimum Prerequisites for Tryouts:

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀:
-5yrs to 6yrs    *swimmers need to be at least 5 years by September 1, 2024
-Able to submerge and exhale for 5 seconds-float comfortably on their front/back-swim 10 meters unaided – NO life jacket-flutter kick-can follow instructions-can do a solo jump into water over their head


𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:  
-6yrs to 10yrs old   *swimmers need to be at least 6 years by  September 1, 2024
-At least Swimmer 4
–Ability to swim 25 meters – freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke 

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿:
-8yrs to 12yrs old   *swimmers need to be at least 8 years by September 1, 2024-at least Swimmer 7+
-Comfortable with freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and foundations of butterfly
-Ability to swim 50 to 100 meters

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿:
-12yrs to 18yrs old   *swimmers need to be at least 12 years by  September 1, 2024-at least Swimmer 9+
-Able to swims all 4 swim strokes
-Intermediate – 100 m continuous swimming
-Senior – 200 m continuous swimming

Previous experience is not a requirement: For Artistic Swimming, Water Polo and Diving, swimming skills that allow safe participation in deeper water are required. However, previous water polo playing, diving or artistic swimming experience is not a requirement.  

RE-ASSESSMENT IS REQUIRED IF your swimmer is

  • Previously passed assessment but did not register into the program;
  • Did not swim in any program in the last year.
